Over on the FB Clone Cast grooup, Mr. X alerted us to this quote from Dave Filoni:
"There is no more clear illustration of the difference between the Expanded universe and the Star Wars created by George Lucas [than the differences between the comic Slaves of the Republic and the TCW version]. The EU is a well of ideas, and there's what's on screen. They don't live in the same universe. Everyone wants to think so, I know, and there is a lot of effort to make it all work, but it's pretty clear when you start really looking at it that when you take ideas from the printed realm and bring it on the screen, it's not always the same . They relate. There are similarities. I still enjoy a lot of those stories. I think there are a lot of great ideas. They influence you. They inspire you, which I think is the whole point of having an EU. We try hard to honor things when we can, to give nods to things, but at the end of the day there is a difference between what you see in the Star Wars films and TV series and what you see in those books." - Dave Filoni
Oh yes! We've been sayin' it. We've been sayin' it for three dang years. Ain't we been sayin' it, Miguel? Yeah, we've been sayin' it.
They cannot be reconciled. They are separate continuities. One is from many authors. The other, though with contributions from many authors, is ultimately from one guy...Lucas himself.

They may not be able to be reconciled now, but once the show is over, you know LFL will do their best to try. Even if they have to eliminate a few sources.

I agree they'll try. It's in their nature. But I don't think they can succeed unless they pull a "some of these stories are being told by people within the SW universe, and they didn't apparently have all their facts straight" kind of thing. And for what it's worth I'm personally not a fan of tht approach. Not for SW anyway.

They did things of that sort when the prequels came out. OTOH, sometimes they just seem to ignore inconsistencies, like Grievous chasing after Palpatine in the Genndy cartoon vs. the novel Labyrinth of Evil. And sometimes they just straight up say some elements of stories are non-canon, like the plot of Knights of the Old Republic II. Technically, you can't play a canon version of that story.

LOL, I just love it whenever Filoni or anyone at Lucasfilm for that matter drops the Hammer on the EU. I mean sure I love some of it, namely the stuff before Episode 1 (like the Old Republic era) but the stuff after Return of the Jedi just seems a bit odd to me. I don't know I just couldn't follow anything past Return of the Jedi. But anyway, it's always nice seeing the officials over at Lucasfilm basically stating the obvious in saying that the EU and the Films/Clone Wars are canon. But that's just me.
