Now, one of my favorite episodes of the first season “The Hidden Enemy”! What can I say, I love the clones. And Ventress. And Obi-Wan and Anakin fighting Ventress.
The Webcomic this time around is “Shadowed” and takes place as General Loathsom from the Clone Wars movie announces to the people of Christophsis that their planet is now under Separatist control. Anakin and Obi-Wan show up in their cruiser and the next thing we know, Slick’s unit is speeder biking on the planet. Slick finds the site to set up an ambush on the droids, the same towers they start in at the beginning of the episode. Sketch and Chopper are later on patrol and encounter a group of droids menacing some Christophsis locals. The locals try to save themselves by pointing the clones out to the droids, but Sketch and Chopper easily blast them. There's clearly no love lost between the clones and the locals. Finally, Ventress uses some recently acquired information (ooh, mysterious) and tells Loathsom to prepare for attack. Pretty involved comic this time around.
The cookie: “Truth enlightens the mind, but won’t always bring happiness to your heart.” So basically, “Sometimes, the truth hurts.” You could apply this to our good guys learning they have a turncoat in their midst or Slick’s earlier revelation of his fellow clones’ plight as soldiers bred to fight and die.
Back to the beginning! Well, before the beginning. Welcome back to the Emerald City.
Slick’s squad is working with Obi-Wan at the beginning. This is the first time I’ve noticed that.
What’s nice here is we get to see how deadly the standard battle droids can be in overwhelming numbers. Even with both Jedi heroes, the Republic forces barely survive.
Hawk’s back! And he has his own helmet design this time. If you remember, he's the pilot in the movie who drops Anakin and Ahsoka off on Teth.
The tactical droid actually uses a blaster rifle. Have we seen that before? Or since?
Obi-Wan calls Cody a captain. I thought they’d fix that mistake for the DVD. Apparently not.
Anakin's and Obi-Wan's rigid hair on the speeder bikes! Strongest hair gel in the galaxy!
Love their casual attitude about trap springing. Very Episode III.
Ventress! Yay! She even drops the robe for Kenobi.
There is pinup art all over that barrack. Those clones are dirty boys.
Chopper ol’ boy! I love Filoni’s commentary about the guy collecting droid fingers. Maybe someone you want to check into.
I like cutting between the interrogation and the lightsaber duel. Ups the tension a little bit.
“Slick’s the traitor?!” He just punched Cody in the face, so he’d better be.
Slick’s been a busy boy. That’s a lot of destroyed equipment.
Anakin is the bane of those giant, round-headed droids.
Loathsom cameo! And the ship that Ventress used to capture Rotta the Hutt. I love the little details
Kind of wonder why Rex didn’t just stun Slick immediately.
Slick does an admirable job holding off Cody and Rex for a couple of minutes. I’m kind of surprised by that.
Nice uppercut, Cody.
Slick brings up some heady concepts at the end there, something that’s been explored quite a bit in the EU and maybe a little bit later in “The Deserter."
“…at riiisk.” Emphasis on the i.
Heavy cannons get a shout out. Which, of course, are vital at the beginning of the movie
Next: Annoying mad scientists and odd-sounding Gungans in “Blue Shadow Virus”!
