The webcomic before this one is “Shakedown”. Anakin’s task force is stationed near the Bith homeworld, but Anakin is restless, wanting to hunt down the Sep superweapon. We meet Jedi General Ares Nune, mentioned in the last webcomic, and his clone commander Kite. They become Grievous’ next victims. On Coruscant, Plo Koon volunteers to lead a patrol to look for Grievous’ ship, setting up the episode’s opening scene.
Cookie: “Belief is not a matter of choice, but of conviction.” I would guess alluding to Plo Koon’s belief and hope that they will stay alive in the debris field, even as their chances seem to fade, and Ahsoka’s belief that her friend is alive, even as it seems there’s no hope of finding them.
Even as TCW’s CGI has improved in five seasons, I still love that opening shot of the three cruisers.
Nice music, too.
This episode definitely made Plo one of my favorite Jedi on the show. Or ever.
We also get to meet Plo’s recurring commander Wolffe in this episode.
OT reference: There’s the tribute to the Death Star laser. I wonder why battle droids would need to shield their eyes from bright lasers.
That battle droid gives a little sadistic laugh. I’m wondering if that was added with the DVD release.
Anakin lecturing on Jedi protocol is kind of ironic. Which he soon demonstrates.
Once again, we get a Jedi caring about the lives of his clone troops. As one would expect. Unless you’re Karen Traviss.
Hello again, Twilight!
Empire reference! ("This one goes here, that one goes there")
I’ve always liked the delivery of Plo’s “When you ask for trouble, you should not be surprised when it finds you.” line. That’s when I realized I really liked JAT’s Plo Koon voice.
Pod 1977. What could that be a reference to? Hmmm...
We find out that Plo Koon discovered Ahsoka as an infant or young child and brought her to the Jedi Temple, giving them that past connection.
One thing I don’t miss from early TCW: “Artooie”
Okay, the droid humming to himself as he heads to kill the clones is both funny and disturbing.
The flashlights on the droid heads make them look like they’re wearing mining hardhats.
Man, Palpatine’s sleeves are emormous.
Little bit of Force Theme as Ahsoka detects Plo Koon’s presence. I like.
Ahsoka’s never heard of an ion cannon. That might be something of a small Hammer!, since in the EU, ion cannons are fairly common.
The CIS having their own version of the Bismark is kind of neat.
Some fancy piloting by Anakin to escape that ion cannon wave.
Those poor battle droids, living in fear under Grievous.
Another "Skyguy". Glad those days are past.
Next: Anakin takes the fight to Grievous in "Shadow of Malevolence"!
