Time for the good stuff! Yeah, the season opened with this episode, but with the rest of this arc and the next, they saved the best for last. And on the home releases, they returned this episode to its proper place with the rest of its story. Looking forward to it!
Cookie: “Strength of character can defeat strength in numbers.” I'm going to guess this applies to... Obi-Wan and his ability to persuade certain rogues?
Rule of kid's TV: you can be as violent as you want to robot characters.
The brothers get a pretty nifty theme.
Savage, happy to knock random objects off of counters to express himself.
Seems that Nightwitch magical enhancement is no match for Sith training.
At least the Council sent one whole other Jedi with Obi-Wan this time! How generous!
Maul: “Three of your lieutenants have already sworn their allegiance to me.”
Hondo: “Traitors! Scum! I am so proud. But so betrayed.”
The show has always been comfortable with stabbing organic beings through the back with a ligthsaber, though.
Hondo referenced Grievous, which makes more sense now that this episode has been placed after the youngling arc.
Savage takes out Adi with a lethal charge. Well done him. And boy was that a controversy with the EU fans. Hints of the continuity reboot to come (and was already something The Clone Wars had been doing for years at that point.)
Hondo: “Where is the other Jedi?”
Obi-Wan: “She's-she's dead.”
Hondo: “She's d- they are too powerful for even you! I am... semi-speechless.”
They really do give Hondo the best lines.
Obi-Wan, dual wielding! And doing quite a job with it!
You know Kenobi is putting forth an effort when a little bit of his hair comes loose.
Savage, one arm down!
Not the last time the brothers will have trouble dealing with a dual lightsaber wielding opponent...
Maul: “Filth! You will pay for your insolence!”
Hondo “Insolence-ha-ha! We are pirates! We don't even know what that means!”
The green Nightsister smoke coming out of Savage and Maul's wounds are a nice touch.
Chronologically, I believe this is the last time Hondo makes an appearance in the series. Farewell, Hondo. Until Rebels!
New Yoda design! And an awkward Tim Curry ADR dub following Ian Abercrombie's passing.
I would imagine Palpatine trying to divert the Jedi from pursuing Maul is to let him and Dooku deal with the brothers themselves.
And, of course, that evil Palps look to close us out. Hint hint, kids!
Next time, Maul and Savage try and change course in “Eminence”!
