Cookie: “Fighting a war tests a soldier's skills, defending his home tests a soldier's heart.” As the first scene states, attacking Kamino is personal for the clones. As we see in fiction and reality, when war comes to your home, there's another level to the passion defenders will display to save it. The clone troopers are no different.
An attack on Kamino was first brought up in “Rookies”, so if you watch the journey of Fives and Echo in chronological order, you get some reoccurring themes. In that episode, Grievous had to abort when the Republic learned his plan before he could attack. It seems like he came up with a new plan, one involving Ventress.
This is Grievous' first appearance since “The Deserter”. It's Ventress' first since “The Hidden Enemy” way back in season one, and her first appearance on the timeline since “Cloak of Darkness”. It had been a long time coming.
If you remember, Fives and Echo were accepted into the 501st at the end of “Rookies”, so we assume they've been with Rex's unit the entire time offscreen.
The shot of Ventress underwater before moving to the surface to show the star destroyer arriving was in the trailer and I love it.
Fives and Echo! In their new 501st painted armor.
99 must have an amazing memory. And there's the medal, sniff.
The EU had its own Battle of Kamino in the Republic comic, now decanonized by the “Legends” change. There was another set one years later that you could play in Star Wars: Battlefront II.
Hiding the attackers in ship debris is a clever plan. I like it.
How Obi-Wan figures things out about the debris, I have no idea. Maybe it's the Force.
No offense, aqua droid, but I don't think spoken commands are going to carry very well through the water.
Fun having the ARC Troopers back. I forgot to point out last episode that they're our first look at the Phase II helmet design. Or at least a transition to it. If I'm not mistaken, some episode in season two had a hologram of the Phase II armor. "Senate Murders", maybe?
That's a lot of dead clone embryos.
It's surprising Anakin is so willing to let Obi-Wan deal with Grievous. But, alas, they could never meet on the show.
Welcome back, Daniel Logan.
They put Ventress' kill and kiss back in for the DVD and Blu-Ray. Dark and delicious, like chocolate.
Grievous and Ventress interacting is fun.
Shaak Ti finally gets to wield her lightsaber.
Anakin vs. Ventress, Part... 2? I don't think they've faced off since the movie. The only other time was with Obi-Wan in "The Hidden Enemy".
“All too easy.” -Grievous
Grievous vs. Obi-Wan, Round IV!
NO!! 99!! That character made quite an impression in only two episodes.
I always liked the shot of the clones arriving to help Anakin.
Oh, Ventress. Failure stinks.
Things end on a high note as Echo and Fives learn they'll soon be promoted to ARC troopers! Woo!
Next, Jar Jar makes his long awaited return in “Supply Lines”!
