Here be the rules and regulations for The Inner Dorkdom Forums.
We begin with the Prime Directives of The I.D., the guiding principles on which The Inner Dorkdom is based. They are more fully explained on the main site. So here they are simply stated:
1. Don't interfere with the cultural practices, internal affairs, or natural development and progression of any alien life or society. (That's Number One. And that's number two.)
2. Allow entertainment to bring us enjoyment, without it consuming our thoughts, hardening and embittering our hearts, or compromising our treatment of others.
3. Remember that with entertainment likes and dislikes are matters of subjective preference, not objective fact.
4. Honor the fact that creators of fiction are beholden to no one but themselves and their own personal tastes as they create.
5. [Classified]
6. Preserve the Robinson Family.
When we apply these principles to the concept of Internet forums, we get the following specific rules:
1. Be kind. Always treat others with respect. There can be disagreements, of course. But in such cases, let's, as they say, disagree without being disagreeable. Consequences for failure to comply: you'll be warned, and if it continues you'll get Gannon-Banned.
2. Don't act as though your tastes are the standard everyone else should meet. Consequences for failure to comply: you'll be called on it, and shamed, man.
3. Claiming, "<Insert film-maker, writer, game designer, etc. here> raped my childhood" in a non-ironic way. Consequences for failure to comply: you'll get Gannon-Banned
4. No 'profanity.' You might personally have no problem using certain words. Freedom is your right. But we want The I.D. to be family friendly. And since this isn't an 18+ site, "some kid might find this..." Consequences for failure to comply: Good question.
That's it for now. Perhaps there will be more in the future.
